About different uses of the “Stop-Motion Animation” and the “Key-Frame Animation”

Which is better, “Stop-Motion Animation” or “Key-Frame Animation”?

This discussion will present very variable opinions depending upon the application specifications and hardware to execute animations. In general, however, they are used in the following different ways.

“Stop-Motion Animation”

For replacement of the pattern design itself of Sprite (For example, eye glimpse, lip sync, etc.)

“Key-Frame Animation”

For the settings of Sprite’s Move, Rotate and Scaling, and Transparency

For UV scroll of Sprite’s textures (such effect as the pattern design scrolls in the Sprite)

These methods are largely used to realize the “same objectives”. However, it is not always the case that the approach to perform the “same objective” is the only one (i.e., By using different functions, the same objective happens to be achieved). These approaches are differently used, case by case. However, it is not recommend to “mix multiple approach within the same animation data in order to realize the same objective”.
