Character Map Color Reduction Sample


In order to produce the Character Map image, first, video game artists had to start from making one small rectangular object that is 1/600 of one whole Character Map image, in 8 x 8. This practice is eventually obliged to be repeated for 600 times to build one complete background image of NINTENDO DS®. 600 pieces sounds already pretty extreme for only one image. But within the tight restrictions, making single puzzle piece like object is even more complicated because the artist must always take a consideration of the object as a part of one big image. Therefore, creating Character Map image in realistic style was practically impossible.

Now OPTPiX iMageStudio for NINTENDO DS® of Web Technology Corp. made possible of generating a photographic image to Character Map image. Simply apply the "Character Map Color Reduction" over a full color photo; for instance, the image will be converted to a "photographic" Character Map image in exceptionally high image quality with barely one click.
Above all, the image data size is compressed to 1/4 of high color images and 1/2 of 256 color images.
